You only have to walk by the magazine rack in your local grocery store to know how many words are out there.
Even if you don’t go looking for them, they flood in – pop-up ads the minute you boot up, push-marketing in your inbox. A daily avalanche of messages, mails, tweets and status updates.
Words fly off billboards and lamp posts, screaming sensation, disaster, gossip.
They make so much noise, relishing in suffering, chaos, conflict and disaster.
Screaming loud opinions about what you lack, what you didn’t know, how you should change.
You end each day exhausted, convinced that everyone else is more prepared for the future, more secure, more together, having a better time.
So why more words, we hear you ask.
Why Scratch? What is it? What do you want? Aren’t you JUST another website and JUST more words?
Scratch is about the world beyond our words.
In Scratch we’re holding out to you moments of stillness where we hope to flood you with things you’ve forgotten you need; things the world has drained from you.
A place beyond ideas of right-doing and wrong-doing, where we hope you will hear something different.
That you are loved. That you’re not alone. That there’s wholeness, freedom, a point to it all.
Assurance – for today, and forever.
And we HAVE to put it out there – because, well, you will agree THAT IS NEWS.
Solid, life-changing news. Of new life. Of freedom, joy, sufficiency. Of being and having much more than you’ve ever imagined.
Scratch is a resting place for believers in Jesus, and non-believers alike.
A place where we enter the rest of Jesus.
Some of our nicest friends have warned us politely it’s absurd in a world of highly stratified media, targeted through scientific market research, to write for an undefined audience.
We agree it’s a bit stretching. But Jesus always spoke to everyone. He is for everyone.
Even though the message hasn’t changed in over two thousand years, our news is that Christ’s body (the church) exists to make a difference, and that the church is the place where God chose to reveal His power to the world (Eph 3:10-12).
Scratch finds it home at Die Akker Christelike Kerk, in the suburb of Linden, Johannesburg.
At the Akker, we believe we are holding out not so much WORDS as THE WORD – Christ, who lived from before time and became flesh two thousand years ago and lives today with the Father to make constant intercession for us.
in·ter·cede: 1. To plead on another’s behalf. 2. To act as mediator in a dispute.
Imagine Jesus was in the next room, praying for you. What could possibly hold you back from being or doing everything you ever wanted?
The point is, He is. He’s closer than your breath. And Scratch is here to tell you how it has helped and changed people just like you.
If you’re a believer, Scratch is yours to come and testify to the power of Christ. Email us your story at email@example.com
We believe God when He says that all souls belong to Him (Ezek. 18:4) – we believe that whether or not it’s something you choose to believe, God’s reality has consequences.
You may for instance also choose not to believe in gravity, but walking out on your belief, ten floors up, won’t break the law of gravity – it will only break you.
If you drop a pencil, it’s not because God is angry at the pencil that it falls…it is just because of the law of gravity.
So God’s love in sending us Jesus has eternal consequences whether you embrace them or not.
We are fully aware of many, or most, of the reasons you may choose not to believe. We used to hold those beliefs ourselves.
We want you to know we pray for your soul, for which Jesus gave his life on the cross, to meet the requirements of the law by which your sin leads to death.
Just like gravity.
Ours is not a faith that says we can just leave you to die. Eternally. We have to share with you the reasons for the hope we have. We have to scratch.
In Scratch the simple news will be that God wants to have a close relationship with you. It’s what His word, the Bible, is full of. It’s what He calls out for across the world.
If you don’t (yet) believe us you will want to tune in regularly to see the evidence.
For those of you who don’t know Jesus and don’t own a Bible – firstly, we’d be happy to hook you up, because we will refer to it often.
Secondly, we invite you to church. Come visit. Check it out.
Find a Holy Spirit-filled church that preaches the uncompromised Word of God. It’s your key to life.
God wants us to know Him with all our faculties. No question you might have is too big for Him to answer. We will help where we can. Our family, Die Akker (www.dieakker.co.za) was planted by Siegfried and Liesl Maré from within the New Covenant Ministries International Team.
Co-eldering the church are couples Hein and Marinda Geyer and Jerry and Andrie Bouwer.
Your are so welcome to visit. It can change everything – if you let it. You can reach the pastors on 073 419 2795 or firstname.lastname@example.org. We meet at 09h00 on Sundays at Laerskool Louw Geldenhuys, corner 7th Street and 3d Avenue, Linden, Johannesburg.
In the meantime, we hope you will see Jesus in the words we dish up for you. And that He will be your rest.
Yours in faithfully scratching.
